Seventies Flashback: a free large-print 1970s word search
Cue the disco ball! This free puzzle is full of Seventies fun: bell bottoms, mood rings, shag carpet, fondue parties and Happy Days on the TV.
It's printed in big, friendly 22pt letters, just like the puzzles in the book, and the answer key is right on page 2. It also works nicely as a reminiscing activity for groups (see the conversation starters below).

Let's talk about the Seventies: conversation starters
Ask one before the pencils come out. The stories often start right away.
- Mood ring check: who had a mood ring? What color did it turn, and did you believe it?
- On wheels: did you ever roller skate, at a rink or down the sidewalk? Any memorable spills?
- Disco night: did you ever go dancing at a disco, or practice the moves in your living room? What did you wear?
- At the movies: do you remember seeing Jaws or Star Wars at the theater? Who did you go with, and did you go in the water that summer?
Printing tips
- Print at 100%. In the print box, choose "Actual size" or "100%" rather than "Fit". That keeps the letters at their full 22pt size.
- Paper: the PDF is set up for US Letter (8.5 x 11 inches). Nothing is printed closer than half an inch to the edges, so home printers won't cut anything off.
- In the UK or Europe? It prints fine on A4. Choose "Actual size" and the puzzle sits in the middle of the page with a little extra white space top and bottom. If anything looks tight, "Fit to page" works too. Everything shrinks only slightly.
- Only need the puzzle? Print page 1 only and keep page 2 (the answers) for yourself.
- Making copies for a group? Print one, check it, then print the rest. A heavier paper and a dark pencil or felt-tip are easy on the eyes.
